How to Choose RFID Laundry Tags for Linen and Uniforms
Hotels, healthcare facilities, and textile rental businesses need to identify reusable items through repeated collection, processing, and delivery. An RFID laundry tag can provide that identity, but it must suit both the textile and the complete processing cycle.
Start with attachment
Textile tags can be evaluated for sewing into a seam, pocket, or designated area. Placement should balance secure attachment with the comfort and function of the finished item.
PPS button tags offer alternative formats, including designs with attachment holes. Silicone and heat-seal options may suit items requiring a soft construction or a different installation method.
Heat sealing requires particular attention. Application temperature, pressure, dwell time, and fabric coatings can affect the bond. Follow the selected product’s installation instructions and validate them on the actual textile.
Evaluate the whole laundry process
A maximum temperature alone is not enough to specify a laundry tag. Document washing, extraction, drying, ironing or pressing, and chemical exposure. Include the duration and mechanical conditions at each stage.
Any claimed cycle life needs defined test conditions. A tag that still reads but has detached from the textile has failed the identification requirement. A tag that looks intact but reads inconsistently is also unsuitable.
Test representative loads
UHF laundry tags can support bulk identification as part of a configured system. However, moisture, dense packing, metal carts, and tag orientation can affect the read result. Evaluate the dry or damp conditions that actually occur, including full loads and the intended movement through the reading area.
Compare distinct item IDs against a known item list. Multiple reads of one tag must not be counted as multiple textiles. Also check whether nearby items outside the intended batch are being included.
Connect identity to the service record
The tag typically identifies an individual textile. Software maintains issue, return, processing, and retirement records using captured events. A standard identification tag does not measure cleanliness or replace a quality inspection.
NEXORA offers textile, PPS button, silicone, and heat-seal laundry tag options. Provide the textile type, attachment method, processing conditions, reader setup, and batch size to help define a relevant sample trial.
